the river district
Making progress between I-90 and the Spokane River
Early in 2003, ignite cda proposed—and the city council authorized—formation of the River District, the second urban redevelopment district in Coeur d’Alene. The district originally encompassed 363 acres between Interstate 90 and the Spokane River, extending from the Riverstone West development west to the city of Huetter. In 2016, 56 acres were de-annexed resulting in $1,003,000 in annual revenue to the benefit of taxpayers, the City of Coeur d’Alene, and other taxing districts. Current size of River District stands at 307 acres.
The River District will expire in 2027.
Major projects within the River District include:
- Riverstone West
- U.S. Bank Call Center
- Senior Housing
- Mill River
- Kootenai Youth Recreation Organization
Legend – The area in orange is the River District. The areas shaded yellow depict recently de-annexed parcels.
